SEBRING — Rachel Ashley wasn't quite sure how to celebrate the first goal of her high school career. So, she scored another one. Using a new-look lineup and some familiar faces in different roles, the Sebring girls soccer team got two goals from Ashley in a 5-0 victory over DeSoto in Class 4A-District 10 action on Monday night. Ashley, who normally plays on defense, moved to forward and scored the first two goals of her prep career to push the Blue Streaks (4-3-2 overall, 3-2 district) to a winning record on the young season. ...more

AVON PARK — It may have been a long holiday weekend, but Avon Park used a suffocating defense and a balanced offense to make short work of Okeechobee by a score of 67-31 in girls basketball on Saturday night. The Class 4A Red Devils, who improved to 3-1 with the win, used their athleticism and quickness to force 23 Brahman turnovers to break the non-district game open in the second half. "We played our game tonight," junior guard Daija Barrett said. "We played as a team, ran the floor well and played as one. SEBRING –– Using its superior height and athleticism, the Sebring boys basketball team opened the season with a convincing 50-36 win over Sonrise Christian Academy in the Pre-Season Classic on Tuesday night. Junior guard Chris Grubb led the way with seven assists, three steals and a game-high 17 points. "Chris worked very hard on his game over the summer and has really improved," said Blue Streak coach Princeton Harris. "He did a good job of driving to the basket, and he also got some good looks from the outside in our offensive sets.
