We have different opinions about why our economy is in such a bad state, but it behooves each of us to take our individual inventory. It seems to me, when we go in debt, we are using what belongs to someone else. There are things that we need the use of credit for, but even then, it is our responsibility to use common sense and not over indulge. I have been following the reports concerning the "bi-partisan" committee which investigated the alleged misdeeds of Governor Palin on the firing of a man in Alaska. I understand Governor Palin states that the man was fired for insubordination. I don't know the exact makeup of the committee except I am informed that the chairman is a Democrat. It is likely that even Republicans on the committee may have been predisposed to find fault with the governor, since she had reprimanded some in her own party. I understand that the report did not find anything illegal in the actions of Governor Palin but that the question was one of ethics. ...more

I am excited about the interest in our youth and children, as well as missions on every level. We, at First Baptist, in Avon Park, had leadership in the past that was very passionate about these aspects of our ministry, but also in the most recent past have had some who were less enthusiastic. Thanks be to God, our present pastor, Doctor Vernon Harkey, is very interested. When I see how the number of our children has increased and the inspiration of those who are leading them, my heart is filled with thanksgiving because I know the children of today are the adults of tomorrow and will be our leaders in the future. The Bible has much to say about how we are to bring our children up; Exodus 20 is only a start. We are told to teach the commandments and statutes to our children when we get up, when we lie down, bind them as the frontlets upon their heads. ...more
