Avon Park senior James Bland became the first state wrestling champion in school history when he won the 160-pound weight class at the Class 1A state tournament in Lakeland on Saturday night. Bland outpointed Tronic Williams of South Fort Myers 14-5 to win the gold medal. Kindergarten students from St. Mary's Episcopal Day School recently spread Christmas cheer to residents of At Home With Friends, performing a Nativity Pageant before a packed house. The children sang carols while presenting the story of the Christmas Miracle. The senior citizens were appreciative, and the kids were excited about sharing their presentation in festive attire.
