When I think back to my old gym class, I realize it was a mixed bag. I have fond memories of playing kickball and learning how to square dance. What has changed this school year with physical education? Students in K-5 public schools are required to take 150 minutes of physical education every week. There is not a requirement for middle school students, but schools are encouraged to provide 225 minutes of physical education per week. High school physical education has been reduced from 2.5 semesters - including one semester of health - to two semesters of physical education, with health integrated. ...more
