On Jan. 31, 57 students from St. John's Episcopal Parish Day School along with their teacher, D.J. Holt, participated in the Regional Latin Forum at Robinson High School. They dominated the Junior Division and won awards in academic tests such as customs, history of the republic, history of the empire, derivatives, mythology and vocabulary. They also were successful in the creative contests, including mosaics, drawings, games, maps, paintings, sculpture, models and textile arts. Overall, they took first place in the academic, creative and "Olympika" categories, and first place for the Junior Division Sweepstakes. Robinson High School's Starlets have entered the competitive domain of winter guard under the direction of coach Jamie Dyer. Winter guard participants create a conceptual show featuring dance (modern, contemporary, classical), flag work and spinning of rifle and saber. While similar to the work they do with the school's marching band, the show is performed on a gymnasium floor. In the team's first competition, Jan. 17 in Orlando, it placed third out of 27 teams. Teammates include Mary Ann Dugay, Shana Jenkins, Venessa Arellano, Kayla Arnold, Nichole Bowe, Julia Couto, Kali Danile, Liz Edgerley, Anastasia Gaertner, Ashley Hance, Kristen Klimley, Mariana Larios, Savannah Loaiza, Ariel Lussier, Ashley Soon and Althea Gerard. ...more

The West Hillsboro Lions Club, with the assistance of 21 Robinson High School students, hosted the 15th annual holiday party for visually impaired children in Hillsborough County on Dec. 5. The event was held at the Lions Eye Institute in Ybor City and included arts and crafts, presents from Santa, pizza and candy canes. The Robinson students received training for assisting the visually impaired and a tour of the eye bank. ...more
