Push TECO To Be Greener After nearly three and a half hours of facts, figures, opinions and pleas, Tampa City Council members Charlie Miranda, Gwen Miller, Thomas Scott and Joseph Caetano voted against delaying approval of the 25-year franchise agreement with Tampa Electric Company. The delay would have given all of us time see and hear the changes sought by President-elect Barack Obama pertaining to energy generation and its effect on climate change as well as the effect the fiscal crises might have on jobs and other opportunities in the near future. The delay would have given concerned citizens and groups time to work with the city and TECO to solve the problems pointed out by the 40-plus people present and the hundreds who communicated with council members with letters and e-mails. ...more

a 25-year-old Port Richey man was arrested Thursday, accused of shooting a man at the Calendar Girls strip club. Derrick Henry "Casper" Carr, of 8915 Sterling Lane, was arrested at his home in connection to Wednesday's shooting of 23-year-old Thomas Scott Pryor outside the club at 16309 U.S. 19. According to sheriff's office reports, Carr became upset when Pryor smacked a dancer's buttocks. It wasn't clear whether she was working or if Carr knows her personally. ...more

TAMPA - Thomas Scott Purks, a freelance reporter and photographer for The Tampa Tribune, was arrested this morning on a misdemeanor charge of driving under the influence. Purks, who regularly contributes stories to the Tribune's sports section, refused to have his blood alcohol level tested, and Tampa police arrested him at Brorein and Morgan streets, the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office Jail Web site shows. ...more
